For the first time in Armenia
Areximbank-Gazprombank Group has started issuing Visa payWave contactless
cards.
The press
service of Areximbank-Gazprombank Group reports that the cards will be accepted
by the banks' 12 Yerevan-based contactless terminals no matter where issued. By
spring 2015 the bank is planning to redouble the number of such terminals.
Visa
payWave is a unique technology allowing to pay in a contactless manner: all you
have to do is to bring the card close to a special reader.
Visa
payWave is based on EMV technology and is accepted by terminals all over the
world, including Armenia's closest partners, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine,
Belarus and Georgia.
According
to ArmInfo's Armenian Banks in Card Business bulletin, Areximbank-Gazprombank
Group is among the ten most active Visa and MasterCard issuers in Armenia:
20,000 and 12,000, respectively, as of Apr 1 2014 (9.1% and 36.5% respective
growths as compared with Apr 1 2013). The bank has 316 POS-terminals (8th rank)
and 79 ATMs (9th rank). The bank was
the first to join Visa and the first to launch an Internet acquiring project in
Armenia.
The sole
owner of Areximbank-Gazprombank Group is Gazprombank from Russia.
